I'm Retired, Again...

It has been over 12 years since I posted anything here...not sure where the time went, but it did. I retired from Eastern in 2019...stayed retired for 7 days and went to work for Solution Tree. Stayed there through the pandemic--it was a little better than being superintendent during that time, but not much. I retired again on January 1, 2022 and thought I was done with working...lol. In June 2024, the superintendent at Eastern Greene moved on to another position, so they needed an interim to get them through until a permanent superintendent could be hired. Scott Carmicahel, a very good friend, asked, so I went back a couple of days a week. I soon discovered I did not know how to do the job only two days a week...I did make sure I was only in the office two days, but I wound up working probably a half or full-day more each week. Thankfully for me, a new superintendent (actually an old member of my EGS team) Doug Lewis was hired and started September 3rd. We had a week overlap and I will obviously answer text and phone messages to help when I can. The time back was great in seeing many of my people again, but I was quickly reminded why I retired...it is a very stressful and difficult position, yet so very important. I also missed out on quite a bit of Charlotte time...that was a real factor in my hope that a hire would happen quickly. I am thankful that happened...I will plan to write a bit each week.
