Bloomington South Panthers Baseball 2010

Yesterday was Semi-State for high school baseball in Indiana. The Final Four high school baseball teams in the state played for a chance to play for the state championship at Victory Field in Indianapolis. That game represents the hard work dedication, and the luck needed for teams to reach the pinnacle of high school baseball in basketball-crazed Indiana.

My son's team, Bloomington South, was one of the four teams. They played against Cathedral HS in Avon, but lost 1-0 in one heck of a baseball game. Both teams played hard with a bit of luck being the difference in the game. The only run was driven in by a hit batsman after a walk, fielder's choice, and an infield hit...the only one for Cathedral on the day. South had three hits--Caleb Baechtold, Nolan Rogers, and Joe Forney--but could not get a hit with runners in scoring position. Dylan Peters and Joe Forney pitched great games with Dylan striking out 15 Panthers.

As mentioned, it was a tremendous baseball game...so, I wanted to tell you about the Panthers. This group may be the most talented team 1-9 in the entire state! They set a school record for home runs this year. They finished 26-5 for the season. Individually, Kevin Swango set the season hits record, no pitcher had more than one loss, Nolan Rogers had 5 triples, Tyler Jordan threw a no-hitter, and list goes on. It was a great sea on full of blowouts and comebacks alike...excitement reigned and should into the next season. The Panthers only lose three seniors, but will need to make up 11 wins from two pitchers. Of course, the guys remaining are more than ready to fill that need...Joe Forney, John Waldon, Caleb Baechtold, and Nolan Rogers stand ready...I can't wait!!
